Gougane Barra Hotel

Our courses take place in the beautiful Gougane Barra Hotel, overlooking the lake in a peaceful and historic valley. Classes are held upstairs in the hotel and staying on-site makes everything simple and convenient.

The hotel offers special accommodation packages for course students. If you are travelling without a car, a local taxi can be arranged from Macroom, Cork City or Killarney (additional fee applies).

Please note: The classroom is located upstairs and there is no elevator access.

Bed and Breakfast Options

If you choose this option, you will be staying with a Gaeltacht family, in specially selected homes with breakfast provided. (You will not have access to food preparation facilities). You will pay your host family directly during your stay. Payment by credit card is not possible with this option.

Day students or those who prefer to stay somewhere else are very welcome to arrange their own accommodation. Nearby options include:

Food

Only snacks, tea and coffee are included in the price of the courses. Main meals are not included in the price.

You are warmly invited to join the group for:

  • Lunch at 1:30pm
  • Dinner at 6:30pm (€47 for 3-course meal or options available for a lighter meal)

If you’re staying at Gougane Barra Hotel, meals are included in your accommodation package.

If you’re staying somewhere else, please let me know and I’ll happily add you to the group dinner reservation.


Payment

Accommodation fees are paid on arrival at course. If staying in a hotel, please pay at reception. B&B accommodation is paid directly to the host families. It is advisable to have cash for this transaction as credit card facilities may not always be available depending on the accommodation provider.

Course schedule

The course combines immersive Irish language classes with cultural experiences.

  • Mornings: Irish language lessons designed to build your skills and confidence.
  • Lunch: a relaxed break to recharge and chat with fellow students.
  • Afternoons and evenings: cultural activities such as traditional music sessions, storytelling, history talks or nature walks.

The exact timing and activities may vary from course to course depending on the group, but every schedule is carefully designed to offer a rich balance of language learning and cultural immersion.

The course begins at 10am on Monday morning and finishes after lunch on Friday

Weekend course

The course begins at 3pm on Friday and finishes at 5pm on Sunday
