Camino trí Ghaeilge

9 - 16 mí Lúnasa / August

Walk 115km of the Camino de Santiago from Sarria to Santiago on a unique Irish-language walking holiday with Jane.

The package includes 7 nights B&B accommodation in hotels, daily luggage transfers (so you don't have to carry your heavy bag with you everyday!) and your Pilgrim Passport

Highlights

  • Walk the final stage of the Camino Francés (115km) led by Jane and a professional tour manager
  • Practice your Irish in a relaxed setting: all levels welcome
  • Experience a rare solar eclipse on the 12th August
  • Finish the walk in Santiago de Compostela and get a tour of the city from a local Irish-language tour guide on the final day

What level of Irish do I need?

There's a wide variety of language levels signed up from beginners to native speakers, everyone is welcome! The communication on the trip will be primarily through Irish so a good basic understanding of the language is recommended.

What age are the other walkers?

So far, those who have signed up range from their early 20s to late 60s, with a variety of Irish-language levels. Walkers must be aged 16 or over. Those aged 16-17 must travel with an adult and share a room with someone aged 18 or older.

What level of fitness do I need?

It's a good idea to train by going for a few long walks between now and then, but if you feel like you can't walk the full distance each day, it’s no problem as you can always get a taxi to the hotel or skip a days walking altogether. No harm in it. It’s your Camino, so no point in pushing yourself too hard or putting yourself under pressure to walk. It’s a holiday after all!

How to get to Santiago?

We recommend getting these flights with AerLingus:

Arrival: 9 August - Dublin to Santiago de Compostela (flight number: EI742) Time: 12:50 - 16:10

Departure: 16 August Santiago de Compostela to Dublin (Flight number: EI743) Time: 16:50 - 18:00

The private bus collection to/from the airport in Santiago de Compostela will match these flights. However, if you would prefer to arrive earlier and spend an extra night in Santiago, that's no problem at all. Just meet us at the airport when we arrive to get on the bus with us.

Will it be very hot?

The maximum temperature on this stage of the Camino in August is usually around 25-28⁰C with night-time temperatures of 13-18⁰C but we will start walking early every morning to avoid the 3pm heat.

What's included (€915)

  • Accommodation in hotels (3 nights in Lugo, 2 nights in Arzúa and 2 nights in Santiago)
  • Breakfast in the hotels
  • Tour manager
  • Bus transfers everyday
  • Tour of Santiago on the final day
  • 24/7 emergency support

A unique Camino: language, culture, friendship and a once-in-a-lifetime sky event.
